I want to help the do-it-your-self person keep their trucks running by sharing the knowledge I have learned over 50 years experience. My instructions are written from my experience of working on trucks and adding shims to many trucks.
The oil side of the injector has one main component, called the poppet valve. The poppet valve operates JUST like a valve in a cylinder head.However, instead of being opened and closed by a rocker arm or camshaftthis poppet valve is opened by the magnetic force of the (energized) solenoid on top of the injector. As a very broad average, you typically see normal wear on the oil side of the injector begin to cause drivability, performance, and poor running (particularly on a cold engine) at approximately 200,000 miles OR LESS.
Some trucks have hard cold start, or very low power when cold as early as 165-180k milesand very few make it past 220,000 miles without some of these symptoms. This normal wear on the poppet valve will USUALLY cause LOW ARMATURE PLATE CLEARANCE TO HOUSING, CAUSING STICTION. MAKING the truck to run rough (OR MISS) UNTIL THE ENGINE OIL WARMS UP. Truck runs like brand new. , there's not a lot there, but what's there is simply magic. This is the first time I've been compelled to write a review. This was great for me as I was able to familiarize myself before I began on the project. This kit addresses the only real part of the injector that can be adjusted, simple as that.I was having cold crank, no start issues. As the truck warmed up, it got a little better, but I basically had to "floor it" for a 5-10 second pull before it started running better. My mileage had gone down, truck was struggling (gearing down) on hills, almost running as bad as a Chevrolet, sigh. My truck starts sooo good now, you can't even hear the starter turn, even on cold mornings. I have a 2003 f250 4 door crew cab 4wd lariat 7.3.
